Adventure Time + Studio Ghibli Remix / by David (http://deighvid.tumblr.com/)
Researching Toonami for my History of Animation class and was reminded of a show I used to love watching as a kid. G Gundam….I’m beginning to understand my senior film a little better now.
Toonami in education. Oh yes.
Happy Halloween. It’s my roommate at the flash. But seriously this is his costume. Complete with red denim jeans.
The giant robots (Mega Deuses? Mega Dei?) of The Big O, scanned from a Japanese guidebook to the series. Note the continued presence of Engrish in the book; if I recall right, “Osrail” is “Azrael”, “Grinda” is “Glinda”, and “Inpherno” is, of course, “Inferno”.
Terrific Trio - Mike Morgan, Mary Michaels, and Stuart Lows were all respected Gotham scientists who stumbled into an unfortunate accident. During a routine experiment, they were doused with radiation, altering their DNA into ways they could never imagine. Now blessed, or cursed, with superpowers, the three decided to use these new found abilities for good:
- Magma - powers with massive strength housed in a fiery body;
- 2-D Man - much like a rubber band, and stretch his entire body to any lengths;
- Freon - blessed with flight, she can shoot ice blasts from her hands.

Character model for Schwarzwald from a Japanese guidebook to The Big O. Note the Engrish (Gergrish?) rendering of his name as Schwaltz Walt.
JLU’s Ultimen were loosely based on characters created for the Super Friends, were briefly allies and later antagonists to the JLU. The Ultimen consisted of Long Shadow, Juice, Wind Dragon, Downpour and Shifter. The group appeared in the episode “Ultimatum” (my favorite), where it is revealed that they are clones created by Project Cadmus.
